my love of photography
My love affair with photography started a few years back with a Canon AE-1 and a roll of B&W film. Since then, I’ve gone through the various stages that came with being both a photo and tech enthusiast.
I started in the honeymoon stage where my camera never left my side. I next proceeded (quite quickly) to the gear lust stage where I spent too much time looking at lenses and too little time looking through them. I then moved onto the pretentious artist stage where I sold off most of my gear and shunned all those (regrettably) that argued for the sake of having the best gear. After that came the minimalist stage where I traveled to three countries in five weeks with a Canon S90 while the SLR sat at home. And now…now I’ve finally arrived at the acceptance stage where I’m back to shooting with whatever camera I can get my hands on.
Even though I’ve always known that photography is all about the images, it took me until very recently to circle back to the reason I fell in love with photography; capturing the moment.
Photography means many things to many people, but for me, it’s a way to express my creativity and to share the things that catch my eye. I’m hoping that working through these stages has made me a better picture taker and that I can focus once again on expressing my random creativity.
now with words
I’ve been going back and forth about starting a new blog where I can do a bit more of my “expository writing”, as I like to refer to it (thanks to a conversation with a good friend on Twitter). I deleted my photography blog a couple years ago and recently did the same with a phantom blog at WordPress.
Regrets? No. But it does leave me feeling a bit nostalgic for the days when I had time to write about things I found interesting or cared about. So seeing as this is my last site standing, I’ve decided to add my words to the content of this site.
I have no idea how often my words will appear here, but I do like the idea of randomly being able to throw something into the ether without rhyme or reason. Having this site as my online notebook allows me to write without worrying about topic, frequency of posts, or any other barrier to entry for creating a new blog. This site after all, is called random creativity, and the words shall be as random as everything else you may encounter here.
